| The solar rebate program, created in 2006 by the Florida Renewable Energy Technologies and Energy Efficiency Act, was structured as a four-year program. Any resident of Florida who purchases and installs a new solar energy system from July 1, 2006, through June 30, 2010, is eligible for a rebate on a portion of the purchase price of that solar energy system. While funding for FY2008-2009 is already exhausted the state will continue to accept applications for the next fiscal year. If you apply for the rebate program and your application is approved, you will be placed on a waiting list. |
The rebate allows for $4.00 per watt for residential systems, with maximum rebate of $20,000; and for business systems, maximum rebate is $100,000. For details, see the links to the Florida State web site, and the application form.

| From the additional research by the Lake County, Florida Property Appraiser we have been able to locate the ability of a property owner to have the costs associated with a renewable energy device exempted from taxation for a period of no more than 10 years. Once the exemption period expired the costs associated with the renewable energy device would then be assessed at fair market value. The renewable energy device would need to be installed after January 1, 2009 to qualify for the 10 year exemption. If you have the the photovoltaic solar cells are installed on your property during 2009 you would be required to file an application with this office in January or February of 2010 to have the exemption considered for the 2010 tax roll. |
| This exemption is available statewide. Check with your local property appraiser for more details. |
| Given the cost of a solar system, this can be an important savings in reducing the cost of this upgrade to your home. |

The Federal Government has created a program to incentivize homeowners to invest in energy efficient systems for their homes. Residential Renewable Energy Tax Credit provides for a 30% tax credit on PV solar systems installed at your home, and for systems installed after 2008, there is not upper limit to the credit received. So, for example, if you spend $30,000 on a system, you will be eligible for a $9,000 tax credit.
